I had a wart in high school. I ignored it, so the 1 wart became legion. I had them frozen off at a dermatologist and they still didn’t go anyway. When mom said, “Let’s go see a wart healer next time we’re in Alabama,” I said OK. This OK set me on a path of saying a hard YES to healing and near obsession with Southern Folk Medicine.
Years later, my research partner Jennifer Joy Jameson and I got the Joyce H. Cauthen Fellowship to document the stories for the Alabama State Archives. Both stories are here! Published in Julep Journal in Nashville, TN in 2017.
